About Us

Perhimpunan Teater dan Pertunjukan Indonesia (PTPI) or Indonesian Theatre & Performing Arts Association is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing theatre and performing arts in Indonesia, fostering collaboration among, venues, artists and industry stakeholders, and representing Indonesia on both national and international stages. Would be considered a national arts and culture association — more specifically:

  • Type: A professional and cultural organization.
  • Scope: National (Indonesia) with potential international collaborations.
  • Field: Performing arts — covering theatre, musical theatre, dance, opera, and other live performance genres.
  • Purpose: To unite theatre and performing arts stakeholders in Indonesia (producers, venue owners, artists, educators, event organizers) to promote cultural exchange, raise artistic standards, and expand Indonesia’s presence on the world stage.
  • Activities:
    • Organizing festivals, performances, and tours.
    • Facilitating collaboration between Indonesian and international theatre groups.
    • Supporting training, education, and professional development for members.
    • Acting as a bridge for cultural diplomacy in the performing arts sector.

 

PTPI’s Objectives:

  1. To bring together and strengthen relationships among managers, owners, and practitioners of theatre and performing arts venues in Indonesia.
  2. To promote the development and quality of performing arts in Indonesia.
  3. To serve as a forum for coordination, advocacy, and promotion of theatre and performing arts.
 

PTPI’s Activities:

To achieve these objectives, PTPI organizes activities such as:

  1. Meetings, discussions, and seminars on theatre and performance management.
  2. Training programs, workshops, and educational activities in the field of performing arts.
  3. Publications, promotions, and exhibitions of performing arts works.
  4. Collaboration with government bodies, the private sector, and international organizations.
 

Indonesia have PTPI for several important reasons:

  1. Strengthening the network of performing arts practitioners PTPI serves as an official platform that brings together managers, owners, and practitioners of theatres from various regions, fostering broader collaboration and the exchange of ideas.
  1. Enhancing quality and competitiveness Through training programs, workshops, and advocacy, PTPI helps improve the technical, artistic, and managerial standards of Indonesia’s performing arts sector, enabling it to compete both nationally and internationally.
  1. Advocacy and protection of artists’ interests PTPI acts as a unified voice to champion regulations, policies, and government support that favor the advancement of theatre and performing arts.
  1. Promotion of Indonesian culture With this organization, both traditional and contemporary Indonesian performing arts can be more effectively promoted to the world, supporting cultural diplomacy and tourism.
  1. Building a performing arts industry ecosystem PTPI connects the arts sector with the creative industries, tourism, education, and the economy, ensuring that performing arts not only survive but also grow as a productive and sustainable sector.
